Health and Medicine

The funding landscape for medical and health sciences has undergone transformational change and continues to evolve. Those individuals, teams and institutions that lead the transformation will have the greatest future success.

At OO, we are well-versed in the key current health and medical research priorities and challenges in Australia and internationally, and we bring multiple perspectives to the task of ensuring competitiveness in a changing world. We can advise on:

  • National competitive grant schemes for health and medical research

  • Recent major changes to NHMRC schemes including strategic intent and assessment

  • MRFF’s strategic priority setting processes, the funding opportunities arising and what to look for when positioning applications for success

  • Opportunities and constraints for health and medical research in ARC funding

  • National collaborative research infrastructure and the new collaborative platforms being established to support medical, health and life sciences research, such as the Australian Clinical Trials Alliance (ACTA) and MTP Connect

  • International competitive schemes relevant to medicine and health such as the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding schemes, major international philanthropic funds such as the Wellcome Trust and Gates Foundation, NHMRC collaborative schemes with NIH, the National Institute for Health Research UK (NIHR), European Framework programs and Singapore A*STAR

  • Industry partnering opportunities through the CRC, ARC Linkage including ITRP, and NHMRC Development and Partnership Grants (both industry and policy makers)

  • Industry opportunities e.g. with pharmaceutical, health technology or other relevant companies

  • Philanthropic and global NGO funding opportunities (often for specific diseases/conditions)

Our research advisory expertise is broad and deep, and includes:
